This Privacy Policy explains how Balance ("we", "our", or "the service") collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use our application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Spanish law.

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is the operator of Balance. You can contact us at contact@app-balance.com for any privacy-related requests.

2. What data we collect

We collect only the data necessary to provide the service:

• Account data: your email address and encrypted password, provided when you sign up
• Profile data: name, date of birth, and phone number, if you choose to provide them in Settings
• Financial data: income, expenses, assets, liabilities, and categories that you manually enter into the application
• Preferences: language, currency, and display settings stored locally on your device

We do not collect any data automatically (no analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising identifiers). We do not access your bank accounts or any external financial data.

3. Why we collect your data (legal basis)

• To provide the service (contractual necessity): your email is required to create and manage your account; your financial data is stored solely to power the features you use
• Legitimate interest: we may use aggregated, anonymised data to improve the service

4. How we store your data

Your data is stored securely on Supabase (Supabase Inc.), a cloud database provider. Supabase stores data on servers located in the EU West (Ireland) region. Supabase acts as a data processor on our behalf and is bound by a Data Processing Agreement compliant with GDPR.

Your password is never stored in plain text — it is hashed using industry-standard algorithms by Supabase Auth.

5. How long we keep your data

• Your account and financial data are retained for as long as your account is active
• If you delete your account, all your data is permanently deleted immediately and cannot be recovered
• We do not retain backups of deleted user data beyond 30 days

6. Who we share your data with

We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. The only third party that processes your data is:

• Supabase Inc. — database and authentication provider (EU region)

In the future, if payment processing is introduced, a payment provider (such as Stripe) may process your billing information. This will be reflected in an updated Privacy Policy before any such change takes effect.

7. Your rights under GDPR

As an EU resident, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Right of access: you can request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Right to rectification: you can correct inaccurate data directly in Settings
• Right to erasure: you can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Personal data → Danger zone
• Right to data portability: you can request an export of your data in a machine-readable format
• Right to object: you can object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Right to lodge a complaint: you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish data protection authority (AEPD) at www.aepd.es

8. Cookies and local storage

Balance does not use advertising or tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage solely to store your display preferences (theme, language, currency) on your device. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

9. Security

We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and row-level security policies on our database. However, no system is completely secure — if you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
